Is it better to charge your battery after letting it drain all the way or have it charging all the time?
With the new batteries (lithion) they do not have a memory. If you have the older battery, it will have a memory and you should drain it to recharge.
The reason is that the battery only charges to the expected full capacity. The memory is the distance from the expected bottom to top... this leaves an amount of the battery that is not charged... draining it occasionally, does usually reset this issue.
If you are looking to save your battery life, it is actually best to take the battery out when you are plugged in. Laptops do not need a battery to run unless you are certain types of IBMs.
Within laptop circuitry, there is a trigger. When the battery is fully charged it is effectively disconnected and bypassed... this is what happens when you see the light change colors. You will not hurt the battery by leaving it in unless that circuitry is faulty.
